In light of constantly increasing and changing demands placed on employees, the management consulting firm mm1 Consulting & Management has introduced m³, its method for effective change management. “The core of every change is always individual behavior,“ explained Volker Scholz, one of the partners of mm1.“ m³ is a very simple method that allows for a targeted and sustainable change in the behavior of all parties involved.“
So far, change management mainly referred to changes made to the organization, processes, systems, or technology. It did not take into account the basis for any type of change, i.e. the behavior of individual employees. This lead, among other things, to unclearly worded instructions and tasks, dissatisfied employees, and ultimately to a failed change initiative.
The m³ method mm1 Consulting & Management has developed links and combines different perspectives. m³ stands for the three change factors “Motivate“, “Migrate“, and “Measure“. Its nine change elements show how employees can be motivated, how the change can be migrated with employee buy-in, and how its success can be measured. The change process is implemented with the help of specially developed change tools such as the Change Power Workshop.
When using the m³ method, the organization or process is not changed until the end of a project in order to ensure sustainability. The mm1 change management expert Jürgen Möhle explains the process like this: “m³ changes companies from the inside by starting with its core, its employees. What is critical for the success of the change project is a collaborative approach and a continuous improvement cycle. Only until the successful change has been made, the already tried and applied procedures and processes are finally formalized and standardized."
